2022 VUH Santaros Klinikos Research and Innovation report

The third issue of "Research and Innovation" presents an overview of the main R&D achievements at Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos in 2022. Santaros Klinikos remained a strong regional clinical and research centre, with a growing number of newly initiated and long-term R&D initiatives. Specialists at Santaros Klinikos actively collaborate with foreign partners, implement projects funded by the European Horizon Programme, engage in international networks to improve the quality of both research and patient care, and conduct clinical trials. A consistent and focused activity of our specialists in most fields of medicine allows us to maintain the highest standard of healthcare and gives us the opportunity to explore new areas for the discovery of novel diagnostic and treatment methods. As we look forward to the richness and diversity of our research and innovation in 2022, we invite you to become inspired for new initiatives and overcome even the most difficult professional challenges.

The year 2021 at Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos was marked by a never-ending, intense battle against COVID-19. Newly acquired data led to evidence-based decisions and significantly improved the diagnostic and therapeutic options for this disease. COVID-19 vaccines were developed in a record time and soon became one of the main tools for mitigating the pandemic. All this has served as a reminder that the rapid development of research and innovation is essential for effectively protecting the health of our patients and our country's society.

2020 will be remembered for a long time to come as a challenging year that has required our community to focus and make a huge effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Even during the tense epidemiological situation, Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos provided the highest quality health care services, introduced innovative diagnostic and treatment methods, participated in international projects, and carried out biomedical research. This publication is intended for all of us to rejoice in the scientific achievements and innovations of 2020, due to which Santaros Klinikos and the specialists and researchers representing them are becoming more and more valued in the Lithuanian and foreign medical and scientific field.
