Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos continuously promote the development of biomedical research, contribute to the formation of health policies in Lithuania and the European Union (EU), and carry out EU joint actions and biomedical projects. Often in collaboration with other institutions, researchers working at Santaros Klinikos conduct most types of studies – epidemiological, retrospective, prospective studies, drug and medical device clinical trials, experimental development projects.
A dedicated Department for Biomedical Research oversees all biomedical research conducted at Santaros klinikos and helps researchers to develop novel methods for improved prevention, diagnostics and treatment of infectious, non-communicable and rare diseases, in both children and adult populations.
We perceive the end-goal of any biomedical study to be improved care and patient-oriented outcomes. Therefore, a clear focus is present to support the possibilities for drug and medical device clinical trials: Santaros Klinikos have an established modern infrastructure enabling phase I-IV drug and medical device clinical trials as well as most other biomedical research studies.
Clinical studies at Santaros Klinikos include:
- Research of candidate medicinal products and new drug combinations
- Testing of new surgical procedures or devices
- New ways to apply existing treatment options to improve quality of life, alleviate disease symptoms, and/or slow disease progression.
