The Reference Center for Amyloidosis is the largest amyloidosis diagnostic, treatment, training and research center in Lithuania. The center provides a wide range of outpatient and inpatient services: consultations of hematologists, cardiologists, nephrologists, rheumatologists, gastroenterologists, dermatologists, neurologists, dieticians. The center uses the most advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies: laboratory, pathological, radiological, instrumental, molecular diagnostics, medical treatment, chemotherapy, and psychological assistance to patients.
The center is a structural unit of the Hematology, Oncology and Transfusion Medicine Center, Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos. Since 2012, we began to develop procedures and strategy for the examination and treatment of patients with amyloidosis and, in year 2014, we established a Reference Center for Amyloidosis. We regularly organize specialist meetings, panel discussions, and educational events. We have created internationally approved amyloidosis treatment algorithms.
Features

Reference Center for Amyloidosis is one of the largest centers in the Baltic States in terms of the number of consultations performed. About 350 consultations were conducted in 2019. 262 patients from various Lithuanian cities with diagnosed or suspected amyloidosis were consulted from 2014 to 2019.

The center has developed a unique monitoring system that collects data on newly diagnosed cases, tracks the course of the disease and evaluates the effectiveness of treatment. The data is analyzed and constantly updated.
Our center organizes and develops epidemiological studies of treatment outcomes and continuously improves treatment protocols based on the principles of evidence-based medicine. The doctors of the center participate in international conferences where they update their knowledge and present the results of researches of the center.
