Both in Lithuania and in the world, the role of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in the treatment of blood diseases and certain oncologic diseases is constantly increasing.  The first HSCT procedure was performed in 1999 in Lithuania.  Our department is one of the largest in Europe and the largest in the Baltic States concerning HSCT. During the recent years, we perform approximately 120-140 autologous or allogeneic HSCT annually. Furthermore, 1776 HSCT procedures have been performed during 1999-2016.

The Blood Centre (BC) is a rapidly developing department of the Centre. The statistical analysis of data of the first year of work until 2012 shows that the number of donations that were performed in the BC has a tenfold increase. More than 15 000 donations are fulfilled annually. Moreover, there is a possibility to produce components of blood for patients with special needs (i.e., oncological, hematological or immunocompromised patients) in this department.
