Laimonas Griskevicius - Head of Hematology, Oncology and Transfusion Medicine Centre, hematologist. He graduated from Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine, in 1994. He continued his Doctoral Studies at Hematology Laboratory of Karolinska Institute (Stockholm, Sweden) Huddinge hospital. In 2002, he defended his doctoral thesis called “Anti-Cancer Chemotherapy Individualisation Options: Pharmacokinetic Studies of Cyclophosphamide and 4-hydroxycyclophosphamide”.   He has been directing Hematology, Oncology and Transfusion Medicine Centre since 2004. In 2011, he was awarded Vilnius University Professor‘s degree. Fields of interest - minimal residual disease studies, acute leukemia, aggressive lymphoma, population studies.

Ana Vrublevskaja - administrator of Hematology, Oncology and Transfusion Medicine Centre. In 2014, she graduated from Mykolas Romeris University, Faculty of Economics and Financial Management, receiving the Bachelor of Economics degree. She has been working at HOTC since 2014 m.

Orinta Mickeviciute - statistician of Hematology, Oncology and Transfusion Medicine Centre. She graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of Vilnius University in 2015. She defended Bachelor’s degree at the same institution in 2015. She has been working at HOTC since 2015.

Julija Slepikaite - coordinator of Clinical Trials Department of Hematology, Oncology and Transfusion Medicine Centre. In 2015, she graduated from Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine and gained Bachelor’s degree of Public Health. In  2017, she gained Master’s degree at the same institution (Master of Public Health).

Šlepikaite 

Egle Strainiene – senior medical biologist-head of Biobank of Clinical Trials Department,  Hematology, Oncology and Transfusion Medicine Centre. In 2004, she gained Master's degree in bioengineering at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. During her doctoral studies she worked in the field of therapeutic, recombinant protein researches. She gained experience in researches  not only in Lithuania, but also in foreign centers (Finland, UK, USA, Denmark, France). She continued her postdoctoral studies at National Cancer Insitute where she specialized in stem cells and cancer cells researches. She also works as a research fellow andcontinues lecturing biopharmaceutical and chromatographic modules.

Department of General Hematology, Hematology and Oncology Outpatient Department and Outpatient Clinic

Regina Pileckyte - Head of General Hematology Department, physician hematologist. In 1992, she graduated from Kaunas Medical Academy. During 1994-1996, she studied Hematology Residency program there. In 1996-2006, she worked as a hematologist of KMUC and since 2006 she has been working as a hematologist in VUH Santaros klinikos. In 2012, she became the Head of General Hematology Department. In 1996-2000, she was a coordinator of Danish and Lithuanian project „Improvement of diagnostics of patients suffering from blood diseases in Lithuania“. The main field of interest is chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

Vitalija Lenciauskiene - Chief Nurse/Nursing Administrator of General Hematology Department. She has been working in VUH Santaros Klinikos since 2008. Since 2017, she has been a Chief Nurse of the Department of General Hematology. She obtained nursing Master’s degree at Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in 2016. She is a member of Organisation of Lithuanian Nursing Specialists.

Ilma Tavoriene - Head of Outpatient Department of Hematology and Oncology, physician hematologist. In 1991, she graduated from Kaunas Medical Academy. During 1993-1995, she studied Hematology Residency at Vilnius University. Since 1995, she has been working as a hematologist and as a Senior ordinator since 2004. She became the Head of Outpatient Department of Hematology and Oncology in 2010. Moreover, she is a member of Lithuanian Society of Hematology and expert group on chronic myeloid leukemia. The main field of interest is chronic myeloid leukemia.

 Ieva Balciuniene

Andrius Degulys – physician hematologist. During the internship, he underwent training in Paris at the largest European Pitié-Salpetriere Hospital, Department of Medical Oncology, headed by Prof. Kayat and at the Hospital of Kuopio University in Finland. As a resident, he studied at Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos and Saint-Antoine Hospital in Paris, at the Departments of Clinical Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation, headed by Prof. J.P.Marie. After completion of these studies, he worked at that hospital. For one year he taught Hematology the third-year students of Faculty of Medicine of Piere and Marie Curie University (6th Paris University). Since 2011, he has been working as a physician haematologist at the Department of General Hematology of VUH SK. He is a member of Lithuanian Society of Hematology and Order of Paris Physicians.

Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation

Igoris Trociukas – Head of Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Intensive Chemotherapy, physician hematologist. Prior to the establishment of the Department, he had 3 months refreshment courses at “Bormio e Sondalo” Hospital in Italy. In 1997, he had refreshment courses at the Centre of Bone Marrow Transplantation in Zagreb, Croatia. In 1998, he obtained bone marrow specialization at Silesian Medical Academy in Katowice, Poland. In 1999, he had refreshment courses at Wien Bone Marrow Transplantation Centre (Austria) and Basel Bone Marrow Transplantation Centre (Switzerland). In the same year, he underwent refreshment courses of European Association of Hematologists in Ireland. He participates in meetings of European Society for Bone Marrow Transplantation every year and continues to improve his knowledge at refreshment courses of European Association of Hematologists. Since 2004, he has been Head of Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Intensive Chemotherapy of VUH SK.

Ona Jakoniene – Chief Nurse/Nursing Administrator of Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Intensive Chemotherapy. She graduated from A. Domasevicius Medical School, course of nurses in 1982. She obtained professional Bachelor’s qualification in nursing at Vilnius College in 2005. She obtained nursing Bachelor’s qualification at Health Care Faculty of Klaipeda University in 2010. During 1982 -1992 she worked as a nurse at Vilnius Tuberculosis Hospital and later during 1992 - 1998 she worked as a general practice nurse at Hematology Department of VUH SK. Since 1998, she has been working as Chief Nurse/Nursing Administrator of the Department of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Intensive Chemotherapy of VUH SK. She is a member of Organisation of Lithuanian Nursing Specialists.

Renata Jucaitienephysician haematologist. She has been working at Bone Marrow Transplantation and Intensive Chemotherapy Department since 2004; autologous and allogeneic transplantations, high-dose chemotherapy are performed at this Department. During 2005 - 2007, she gained experience in coordination of organ transplantation at the National Bureau on Transplantation at Ministry of Health of the Republic of Lithuania. She participates in refreshment congresses of EBMT every year. She is a member of Lithuanian Society of Hematology.

Valdas Peceliunas – physician haematologist, Senior ordinator of Autologous Transplantation Unit, MD. He has been working as a haematologist in the field of transplantation of haematopoietic stem cells since 2004. The field of scientific research includes multiple myeloma and other diseases of plasmatic cells. He defended his doctoral theses “The value of plasmatic cell immunophenotypic analysis estimating response to treatment and risk of multiple myeloma” in 2011. He is a member of Lithuanian Society of Hematology and European Association of Hematologists.

Rita Cekauskiene – physician haematologist. She is Senior Ordinator of Unrelated Donor Search and Monitoring Unit - Lithuanian National Registry of Bone Marrow Donors. She has been working as a hematologist at VUH SK since 2008. The main fields of activity include therapeutic apheresis (in Lithuania the start of extracorporeal photopheresis for treatment of transplant against host disease and mycosis fungoides took place in 2006), the search for unrelated donors, organisation of donations and transplantations (she underwent refreshment courses at paediatric hospital in Cincinnati, USA). She is a representative of Lithuanian Registry of Unrelated Bone Marrow Donors. She is a member of the Society of patients with hematological diseases “Kraujas”.

 Gabriele Rucinskaite

Vilma Jersoviene - chief specialist of Unrelated Donor Search and Monitoring Unit - Lithuanian National Registry of Bone Marrow Donors. Embryologist-medical biologist of the Unit of Fertility Technologies at HOTC, Molecular and Regenerative Medicine Department.  In 2017 she gained Master’s degree in medical biology at Vytautas Magnus University. She continued her doctoral studies in biomedical sciences at Vytautas Magnus University. She is a member of Lithuanian Society of Laboratory Medicine.Fields of interest: Quality Management System of bone marrow transplantation centers, application of the highest international standards in hematopoietic stem cells therapy (JACIE Standards).

Skaiste Tulyte – Head of Oncology and Chemotherapy Department, physician oncologist and chemotherapist. She has been working as an oncologist and chemotherapist since 2007; in 2012, she became an assistant at Vilnius University. She underwent traineeship at university hospitals in Finland, Austria, France, Milan National Cancer Institute. She has been a member of Lithuanian Society of Chemotherapists and European Society for Medical Oncology since 2006.

During the period 1999-2008, she worked as a general practice nurse of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Intensive Chemotherapy Department at HOTC. Since 2008, she has been working as Chief Nurse/Nursing Administrator at Oncology and Chemotherapy Department of HOTC.

 Virginija Rozenaite

Irena Poviloniene - physician oncologist and chemotherapist. She has been working as oncologist since 1994; in 1995, she began consultative work regarding palliation medicine; since 1999, she has been delivering lectures considering palliation medicine and pain relief. During 2005-2007, she collaborated in the field of investigations of opioid pharmacogenetics with the Department of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine of Norwegian Science and Technology University. She had traineeships at Hamilton, Poland, Belgium, Wien universities. She is a member of Lithuanian Society of Chemotherapists and European Society for Medical Oncology.

Domantas Diglys –physician oncologist and chemotherapist. He has been working as an oncologist and chemotherapist since 2012. In 2014, she gained a specialization of oncologist and chemotherapist. Since 2014, she has been working as a physician oncologist and chemotherapist at VUL SK, HOTC. She is a member of Lithuanian Society of Chemotherapists and European Society for Medical Oncology.

Antanas Griskevicius – Head of Therapeutic Apheresis Department, a physician of transfusion medicine. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University in 1988. He has been working as Head of Therapeutic Apheresis Department since 1993.

Lina Kryzauskaite – Head of Blood Centre, physician haematologist. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University (specialization – haematologist) in 2009. She has been the Head of Blood Centre and a member of Commission of Hospital Transfusions since 2011. She provides consultations regarding transfusion medicine and treats patients that suffer from various defects of blood clotting.

Since 2001, she has been working as Chief Nurse/Nursing Administrator of Blood Centre of VUH SK.

Mindaugas Stoskus – Head of Department, medicine biologist. He has been working at Hematology, Oncology and Transfusion Medicine Centre since 2006, and since that time he has been in charge of the Department of Molecular and Regenerative Medicine. The fields of activity of the Department include diagnostics of hematologic and other oncologic diseases, cell therapy and scientific research.

Vaidas Dirse – medical biologist. He has been working at the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine since 2011. He performs oncocytogenetic investigations – routine karyotyping, using G-banding, FISH. The field of scientific interest includes the search of genome aberrations in patients suffering from oncologic blood diseases by means of the method of SNP karyotyping. He is a member of Lithuanian Society of Human Genetics. He has undergone traineeship at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology of Tartu University.

Egle Gineikiene – Doctor of Science; she has been working in the field of Molecular Biology for more than 15 years and the last 6 years (since 2006) she has been a medical biologist at the Department of Molecular and Regenerative Medicine of HOTC. She specializes in the field of molecular diagnostics of oncologic, hematologic blood diseases. She creates and employs new individualized methods of molecular diagnostics and monitoring.

Arturas Jakubauskasmedical biologist, Senior Ordinator of Immunogenetics Unit, MD. He has been working at the field of molecular biology more than 20 years and at the Department of Molecular and Regenerative Medicine since 2008. Since 2011, he has been the Head of Imunogenetics Unit that became an accredited laboratory of European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI). In 2015, he got ESHI Diploma (European Specialisation in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics) that confirms his qualification in the fields of tissue compatibility and imunogenetics (ESHI Diploma). He is a member of European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI). His main activity includes human leukocyte antigen typing.

Ramunas Janavicius physician geneticist, Senior Ordinator of the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine, MD. In 2007, he obtained qualification of physician geneticist at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University and in 2008, he defended the doctoral thesis “The Involvement of Lymphocytes in Regulation of Tumour Cell Kinetics” at the same University. His specialization includes genetics of hereditary cancer (hereditary cancer of breast, ovaries, large intestine and rare syndromes of cancer predisposition); he performs specialized oncologic genetic consultations and he is a Senior Ordinator of Laboratory of Molecular Medicine. He is a member of European and American Societies of Human Genetics, member of Association for Hereditary Cancer. He has published more than 12 international publications regarding hereditary cancer. He has undergone traineeship in Great Britain (London, Manchester), Holland (Leiden, Groningen), Spain (Madrid), Estonia (Tartu) and Poland (Szczecin).

Beatrice Valatkaite-Rakstiene – medical biologist. She has been working at the Department of Molecular and Regenerative Medicine since 2008. The main field of interest – searching of new biomarkers that influence complications after allogeneic unrelated donor stem cell transplantation. She has undergone traineeship in Belgium (Louvain), Thailand (Ayutthaya). She is a member of Lithuanian Society of Hematology and European Federation for Immunogenetics (EFI).

Vilma Valceckiene – medical biologist, Senior Ordinator of the Unit of Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Bank. She has obtained Master’s degree in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of Vilnius University in 2000. Since 1999 until 2004, she studied and worked at the Laboratory of Cell and Molecular Biology of Karolinska Institute (Stockholm, Sweden). She was awarded Biomedicine Doctor’s degree at VU Institute of Immunology in 2005. Since 2006, she has been working as a medical biologist at the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine of HOTC and since 2011 she has been a Senior Ordinator of the Unit of Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Bank of HOTC.

Rimvydas Norvilas – medical biologist. He has been working at the Department of Molecular and Regenerative Medicine since 2013. In 2015, he gained Master’s degree in Genetics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Vilnius University. The main areas of scientific interest: molecular investigations of oncohematologic solid tumours applying next generation sequencing technologies.

 Rimvydas Norvilas

Zivile Gudleviciene – senior physician (embryologist) of the Unit of Fertility Technologies at HOTC, MRMD (Molecular and Regenerative Medicine Department). In 1994, she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University. In 1997, she completed pediatric residency program there and in 2004 she defended her doctoral thesis. She carried out cancer biology and genetic studies. Nowadays she deepens her knowledge in regenerative medicine and cryobiology field. In the Unit of Fertility Technologies that was founded in 2015, she applies new technologies in fertility preservation, cooling of reproductive cells and tissues and assisted reproductive technologies in patients with oncologic diseases. Since 2006 she has been a representative of EIM monitoring group of international organization ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology) in Lithuania.

Ausra Stumbryte – embryologist-medical biologist of the Unit of Fertility Technologies at HOTC.  In 2012, she  obtained Master's degree in  genetics. She continues her doctoral studies at Vilnius University, Faculty of Natural Sciences. She has undergone traineeship at Biobank of International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)  in France (Lyon). Fields of interest: methods of biobanking, population studies of HPV and search of links with VNP.

Psychologists of HOTC

Egle Urbutiene – clinical psychologist. Master Studies of clinical psychology at VU; since 2012 she has been studying psychodynamic group psychotherapy (Master’s studies at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University). She has been working with patients who suffer from oncologic, hematologic diseases, and other oncologic diseases as well as their relatives since 2010. The field of activities includes individual consulting, group therapy, art therapy and relaxation, lectures of psycho-education, scientific trials on problems that are important for oncology: quality of life of patients, communication between physicians and patients, stress for physicians and satisfaction with work.

Marija Turlinskiene – clinical psychologist, has a Master’s degree in clinical psychology at VU, group psychotherapist (psychotherapy studies of psychodynamic group at the Faculty of Medicine of VU). She is an active member of Lithuanian Association of Psychology, Psychosocial Oncology Association Council. She has been working in the field of medicine since 2001. She consults patients and their relatives individually and in groups (therapy of crises, supportive psychotherapy), leads seminars of psycho-education and staff trainings (skills of communication, prevention of professional burnout). She uses Simonton therapy model for oncology patients; she has been studying it since 2012. Fields of interest: theoretical and practical aspects of oncologic psychology, development  of oncologic psychology in Lithuania.

Roma Grumulaitiene – clinical psychologist, therapist of CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy) and MBCT (mindfulness-based cognitive therapy). She applies an integrated psychotherapy depending on the patient's personality and current situation, consults patients and their relatives individually and in groups. She also leads psycho-educational seminars on psycho-oncology topics for medical staff. Fields of interest: psycho-oncology, crisis and trauma psychology. She is an active member of Lithuanian Association of Psychology, Psychosocial Oncology Association and an associated member in a global network of IPOS (International Psycho-oncology Society). She is certificated as an european psychologist by EuroPSY.
