Prof. Kęstutis Vitkus (MD, PhD, habilitated doctoral degree)

Prof. Vitkus has been working in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Central Branch of Vilnius University Hospital Santaros klinikos since 1982. In 1985, he joined the academic staff of Vilnius University in teaching students and holding professional development courses for medical doctors. Prof. Kęstutis Vitkus defended his doctoral dissertation titled Modifications of Anastomoses of Small Radii Blood Vessels at Vilnius University in 1982, which was followed by successful defense of habilitated doctor dissertation titled Microsurgical Auto-Transplantation of Composite Tissue in 1986. Prof. Vitkus worked in the Oregon VA Hospital in 1988 and in the University of Southern Illinois in 1992. He is a member (and the first president) of the Lithuanian Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a member of Manus Lituanica (Lithuanian Society of Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation) and a member of International College of Surgeons.

Areas of expertise and fields of interest: reconstructive microsurgery, replantation, hand surgery, head and neck surgery, cosmetic surgery.
