Centre of Infectious Diseases is implementing the medical and R&D activities in the fields of Infectious Diseases.

Centre of Infectious Diseases

From May 2019, Centre of Infectious Diseases after innovative modernization will become one of the cutting-edge Infectious Diseases hospitals in the Northern and Eastern Europe.

The Centre will serve for innovative:

- Diagnostics and treatment of patients ill with communicable diseases;
- Research activities;
- Clinical trials;
- Medical teaching activities.

Treatment of well known and emerging infectious diseases

Areas of interest:
1. Tick transmitted diseases: tick born encephalitis and Lyme borreliosis;
2. Acute and chronic viral hepatitis A, B, C, E;
3. HIV infection and AIDS;
4. Influenza: diagnostics, treatment and prophylaxis;
5. Travel medicine: imported diseases of travellers, exotic infections, pre-travel consultations, immunoprophylaxis of travellers;
6. Vaccination for all age groups, vaccine clinical trials;
7. Clostridium difficile infection;
8. Parasitic and helminthic infections: diagnostics and treatment;
9. Neuroinfections.

Infectious diseases specialists are highly qualified in diagnostics and treatment of classical and emerging infectious diseases:

viral
bacterial and parasitic gut infections,
tick transmitted infections (Lyme disease, tick born encephalitis),
acute and chronic viral hepatitis,
HIV infection and AIDS,
respiratory,
neuro- or skin infections.     

New infectious diseases centre will meet the criteria for treatment of rare, imported as well as especially dangerous infections. The human resource infectious diseases specialists have solid experience in specific immunoprophylaxis (vaccination of travellers, adults and elderly population, persons with underlying diseases), post-exposure prophylaxis, and in conducting vaccine clinical trials.

 These research works are being performed: epidemiological, clinical and drug or vaccine development studies in the field of influenza infection, tick born encephalitis or viral hepatitis. The fundamental research of influenza infection novel therapeutic approaches in animals model is being conducted in collaboration with USA scientists. The research study of HIV-infected patients with latent tuberculosis and commercial clinical trial on new treatment strategy of Clostridium difficile infection is going to start.
